Light Up Hobart is not a single church or organisation — it's a collective expression of multiple churches and ministries across Hobart uniting under the name of Jesus.

We come from different traditions and streams, but we share a common conviction: that the body of Christ in this city is stronger together, and that Jesus is worth exalting publicly.

This isn't an exclusive club. It's an open invitation for the churches of Hobart to stand together under the name of Jesus.

Whether you're part of a church that's formally partnering or an individual who wants to contribute, there is a place for you.

Each night of the festival (Fri–Sun, both weekends), we gather in St David's Cathedral Courtyard from 6pm as a base of hospitality — hot drinks, pancakes, conversation and a warm welcome.

From there, teams move through the city to pray and share the love of God.

There's a place for everyone, whether that's serving at the base or going out with a team.

From 7am Wednesday 18 June through to midnight Sunday 21 June, we'll hold continuous prayer and worship at the Waterside Pavilion on the wharf near Mures.

It's a space for the church to unify under the name of Jesus, minister to the Father, and intercede for the city — with anchored times each morning, midday, evening and through the night.

There is no central budget or ticket.

Specific churches are currently covering costs like venue insurance and the coffee van.

Light Up Hobart is a coalition of churches and ministries, uniting around the historical, orthodox Christian faith. While there is likely to be some diversity in secondary theological matters across the coalition, we are united around the essentials of the gospel. In summary, we affirm that:

We affirm that all people have sinned and fall short of the glory of God and are in need of salvation (Romans 3:23).

We believe Jesus Christ is the promised Messiah, the Son of God, who died as the atoning sacrifice for sin, and rose on the third day, securing salvation for all who believe (1 Corinthians 15:3–4; Romans 5:8).

Salvation is received by grace through faith in Christ alone, and those who repent and confess Jesus as Lord and believe in His resurrection are saved (Romans 10:9–10; Acts 2:38; John 3:16).

In response to this gospel, we encourage repentance, confession of Jesus as Lord, and faith expressed in prayer (Luke 18:13–14; Acts 2:38).

We also affirm believer’s baptism as the biblical expression of union with Christ in His death and resurrection (Matthew 28:19; Romans 6:3–4; Acts 2:41), and the baptism in the Holy Spirit as empowerment for witness and Christian living (Acts 1:8; Acts 2:4).
